Goalie Leg Pad Sizing Guide

Proper fitting leg pads would cover from the toe of the skate to approximately mid thigh with the placement of the knee centered with the middle knee roll of the pad. Smaller and younger players tend to do better with lighter narrower pads to enhance mobility and prevent fatigue. Choose the best pad that suits your own style of play whether it’s butterfly or stand-up.

Bauer:
The key factor here is the overall length. The length can be divided into three sections: 1) The boot, 2) Instep to knee, and 3) Knee to top or thigh rise. The proper length of the goal pad is determined by the goalie’s skate size. The next key area is the instep to knee that determines the shin length. Finally, the knee to top or thigh rise is a personal measurement depending on how much pant and pad overlap the goaltender prefers. A general rule is 7″ to 8″.
A. Instep to knee: measure from the instep to the front center of the kneecap while leg is in slightly bent position.
B. Thigh rise: measure from the front center of kneecap up the thigh to desired height.
B. Skate size: provide the skate size for proper boot fit.
A + B + C = estimated size of pad.

CCM:
Sizing is a critical part of feeling comfortable on the ice. CCM Senior goal pads have been designed around a easy sizing procedure.
1. Measure the distance from the floor(barefoot) to the middle of the kneecap, straight up, knee slightly bent.
2. Take the height of the goalie
3. Look at the chart and try the size accordingly.
4. The pad should be measured in the outside seams.

Size Floor to Knee Goalies Height

SR 33″ 19.5″ to 20″ 5’10″
SR 33.5″ 20″ to 20.5″ 5’11″
SR 34″ 20.5″ to 21 6’
SR 34.5″ 21″ to 21.5″ 6’1″
SR 35″ 21.5″ to 22″ 6’2″

SR 36″ 22.5″ to 23″ 6’4″
Vaughn:

An easy way to properly estimate a goaltender’s size for a pair of goal pads is to take the following three measurements:
1) Floor to mid-point of knee cap – _________” (A)
2) Mid-point of kneecap to desired height on thigh – _________” (B)
3) Skate size – _________ x 0.75 = _________ (C) – only add up to size 10 skate as goal skate shells (cowlings) do not get larger over size 10.
The estimated size of pads would then be (A) + (B) + (C). We also need goaltenders height to compare to the measurements, as it is very common for people to add to the “real” measurements and this can completely distort the required size.
