Measure the player's chest just below the armpits, going completely around the upper body. Shoulder pads should fit snugly with the shoulder tips well covered by the shoulder caps. Pads that are too big shift around leaving the shoulder tips exposed or poorly protected. Also, shoulder pads that are too big come down too far on the arms and interfere with the elbow pads.
